Celebrating the people behind Canada’s airports

Airports across the nation celebrated the second annual Airport Workers Day on June 25. It was a day of recognition for the people who keep Canada moving and to celebrate their vital contribution to our communities and our economies.

The Canadian Airports Council projects more than 150 million passengers will travel through Canada’s airports this year, creating 200 thousand direct airport jobs.

The 14 airports across Atlantic Canada alone move nearly 7.5 million of those passengers annually, support over 42,000 jobs, and generate more than $7 billion in economic activity! Our airports fuel tourism, support local businesses, and strengthen our communities.

Mechanics, firefighters, equipment operators, security, above and below the wing agents, management, and more – the professions and career paths within our airports are diverse. Air transportation is only possible because our team has the same goal – safety and a seamless movement of people and goods.

Airport workers keep Canada’s aviation system moving, and for this, we celebrated and thanked them.

At YSJ, airport staff gathered at arrivals with staff from Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, the airlines and their crews, car rental companies, security, and our summer students to enjoy pizza and cotton candy. And that was only a bit of the fun – catch the highlights on Instagram!
