A sustainable flight path for the future

At Saint John Airport, our mission has always been bigger than moving travellers through our terminal. We are the gateway that connects Greater Saint John with the rest of the world, a vital part of our region’s economic engine, and a community hub where opportunities take flight.

As we grow, we recognize that true progress must be sustainable – ensuring that the connections we create today don’t come at the expense of tomorrow.

That is why we’ve made sustainability a central part of our long-term strategy. We’ve set an ambitious goal: to cut our greenhouse gas emissions by 40 per cent by 2030 compared to 2018 levels.

We are already well on our way.

By 2024, emissions had dropped by more than a quarter – the equivalent of taking hundreds of cars off the road. When we achieve our target, it will be like eliminating the emissions from driving an average car an astonishing 2.3 million kilometres.

This isn’t just about numbers. It’s about taking responsibility for our impact and leading the way among regional airports. Every initiative counts – whether it’s electrifying our vehicle fleet, replacing oil-based heating with green alternatives, or retrofitting our terminal with energy-efficient technology. Each step is carefully chosen to balance operational needs with environmental responsibility.

Our progress so far shows what’s possible when determination meets innovation. But we also know this journey is about more than carbon reductions. It’s about leaving a positive legacy – an airport that reflects the values of the community it serves, that fuels regional growth while protecting the environment, and that demonstrates how a small but mighty airport can help chart a sustainable flight path for the future.

Because at YSJ, we’re not only connecting destinations. We’re creating a cleaner, more resilient future for New Brunswickers.
