SAINT JOHN, NB – [Jan 20, 2026] – Saint John Airport (YSJ), in partnership with Loch Lomond Elementary School, is celebrating creativity, community, and sustainability through a student art contest that transformed an airport electric vehicle into a moving canvas.
As part of YSJ’s ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, the airport upgraded a security team vehicle to an electric vehicle in 2025. To bring the EV to life and inspire environmental stewardship, YSJ invited students from Loch Lomond Elementary—one of the airport’s valued PALS partner schools—to submit artwork inspired by protecting nature and caring for the planet.
The response from students was enthusiastic, with numerous colourful and imaginative submissions. Eight winning pieces were selected and combined into a vibrant custom wrap that now adorns the EV as it travels throughout the airport grounds. In addition, one student was randomly selected from all entries to receive a gift card for art supplies.
“This project was a wonderful way to connect sustainability with youth engagement, and to show students that their ideas and voices matter”, said Lori Carle, Manager of Marketing and Public & Corporate Relations at Saint John Airport. “Seeing their artwork driving around the airport has been a joy for our entire team.”
“For the past several years, Loch Lomond School has been fortunate to collaborate with our PALS Partner, the Saint John Airport”, said Sarah Richards, Principal of Loch Lomond Elementary School. “The children were thrilled to participate in this initiative and are so proud to see their creations showcased on this beautiful car!”
The artists beamed with pride as their work was unveiled. The project reflects YSJ’s broader commitment to community partnerships, education, and environmental responsibility.
The wrapped EV will remain in service at the airport, offering passengers, staff, and visitors a colourful reminder that even small actions—like choosing electric vehicles and nurturing young imaginations—can make a meaningful difference.
