Love is in the air at YSJ

At Saint John Airport, we’re always looking for meaningful ways to celebrate the people and partnerships that make our region special. On Feb. 13, passengers on the midday Air Canada and Pascan flights were treated to a heartwarming surprise that blended local flavour, Maritime hospitality and a touch of musical magic.

To mark an early Valentine’s Day celebration – affectionately renamed Pal‑O‑Mine Day in honour of our partners at Ganong Bros. – we surprised guests at the gate with delicious treats from Canada’s oldest independent family-owned chocolate and candy company. (See our Instagram reel for a peek at the fun!)

Ganong has been crafting chocolates in nearby St. Stephen since 1873, and their Pal‑O‑Mine bars are a beloved New Brunswick classic. Sharing these sweets with our passengers was more than just a gesture – it was a celebration of a neighbour whose legacy is woven into the fabric of our region.

The atmosphere was bright thanks to an inspired performance by local jazz pianist Jorian Hapeman. His warm, expressive playing filled the terminal with an easygoing energy, turning an ordinary travel day into something memorable.

Together, these elements created a celebration rooted in community pride. It showcased the best of who we are: a region that values tradition, creativity, hospitality and strong local partnerships. Here’s to more celebrations, more partnerships, and more reasons to smile at YSJ.
