She’s calm, friendly, and loves a good belly rub. Meet Aerial – Saint John Airport’s very own therapy dog in training.
As part of our commitment to making YSJ a welcoming and stress-free environment, Aerial is being trained to offer comfort and companionship to travellers in the terminal.
Whether it’s a child flying for the first time or a hesitant flier who could use a reassuring tail wag, Aerial is learning how to make a difference, one paw at a time.
Aerial, the first full-time therapy dog at a Canadian airport, joined the YSJ family through Canine Therapy for First Responders, an Atlantic Canadian non-profit that trains therapy and facility dogs to support the mental well-being of first responders and frontline workers – and now, airport guests too.
Recently, Aerial hit the town for a visit to some of Uptown Saint John’s pet-friendly shops, where she made quite the impression.
(Check out Aerial’s Instagram for the video from her adventure…and be sure to follow her!)
Did you know Uptown Saint John offers a handy map of dog-welcoming businesses? It’s a perfect resource for locals and visitors planning a pup-friendly outing.
In honour of National Therapy Dog Day on April 30, we’re proud to spotlight Aerial’s progress and celebrate the growing role of therapy animals in public spaces.
And if you’re planning to fly with your own furry companion, take note: Air Canada has updated its pet-in-cabin policy. Changes take effect June 1 – make sure you're up to date before you board.
From the terminal to the town, Aerial is helping us keep YSJ warm, welcoming, and community-focused – one friendly visit at a time.
